Important information about procedures for opening a new account:
To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies all persons (primary and joint owners) who open an account.
What this means for you when you open an account is that we will ask for your name(s), address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you and any owners of the account. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.

Mission Statement
The IBEW 26 Federal Credit Union is a member-owned financial institution whose purpose is to promote and assist in the financial well-being of members by providing professional, personal, competitive, safe and sound financial services within the financial ability of the credit union. IBEW 26 FCU strives to become the primary financial institution of its members.
IBEW 26 Federal Credit Union was started in 1955 by a small group of electricians that worked out in the field. In 1969, the credit union moved from the Creamer’s basement to North Capital Street in Washington, DC and in May of 2006, moved to the present location in Lanham, Maryland.
Board and Committee members volunteer their time and service to ensure the continued success of the credit union for its members. The Credit Union has been fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers throughout the years along with the generous support of our sponsor IBEW Local Union 26.
What Is a Credit Union?
A credit union is a not-for-profit co-operative financial institution that is owned and controlled by its members. Only a member of a credit union may deposit money in the credit union or borrow from the credit union. Credit unions are governed by a Board of Directors elected by the members.
A credit union differs from a traditional financial institution (bank) in that the credit union members who have accounts in the credit union are the credit union owners. There are no share holders earning money from their investment in the bank. Only members receive dividends based upon their deposits. Credit unions offer many of the same financial services as banks including share (savings) accounts, share draft (checking), credit cards, certificates and many different forms of loan products.
